Siemens has announced a key leadership change within its Smart Infrastructure division. Effective June 1, 2026, Markus Grabmeier has been appointed as the new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Electrical Products (EP) Business Unit. He succeeds Andreas Matthé, who is retiring after a distinguished 40-year career with the company.
Andreas Matthé, who led the EP unit since October 2010, will remain available in an advisory capacity until the end of September 2026 to ensure a smooth transition. During his tenure, he held senior roles including Vice President of Power Automation and Energy Management Systems at Siemens Ltd. in South Africa and Executive Vice President of Siemens Ltd. in China.
A Leader with Deep Industry and Regional Expertise
Markus Grabmeier is no stranger to Siemens. He began his career at the company in Management Consulting and spent nearly 14 years in various leadership positions. His experience spans:
- Head of New Business Development
- General Manager of Siemens Electrical Apparatus Ltd. in Suzhou, China
- Head of global manufacturing for the Electrical Products business
- Executive Vice President responsible for China and East Asia at Siemens Electrical Products (2020-2023), based in Shanghai
Most recently, Grabmeier served as a member of the Executive Management Committee of Alfanar, based in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, gaining valuable experience in the electrification industry in the Middle East.
Leadership Perspectives
Matthias Rebellius, Member of the Managing Board of Siemens AG and CEO of Smart Infrastructure, expressed his gratitude to the outgoing leader: “I thank Andreas Matthé for his long-term commitment to Siemens and his outstanding leadership and entrepreneurship. He developed with his team our Electrical Products business to an industry benchmark and an important pillar for Siemens. I welcome Markus Grabmeier back to Siemens and wish him success in leading one of our biggest businesses.”
Markus Grabmeier himself commented on his return: “I’m humbled and honored to rejoin the outstanding Siemens team. I’m looking forward to continuing our success story as an innovation leader in our industry, creating lasting impact for customers and society.”
A Focus on Innovation and Growth
The Electrical Products business is a critical component of Siemens Smart Infrastructure, providing essential components for electrification, safety, and digitalization across buildings, industries, and infrastructure. Grabmeier’s deep understanding of global markets, particularly in China and East Asia, combined with his experience in the Middle East, positions him well to drive the unit’s continued growth and innovation.
His appointment comes as Siemens is increasingly focusing on digital solutions for infrastructure, including recent expansions in water, wastewater, and waste management, as well as AI-powered predictive maintenance and energy-efficient drive technologies. Under his leadership, the Electrical Products unit is expected to continue its role as an industry benchmark and key pillar for Siemens’ Smart Infrastructure division.
